Considering Greene's criteria for generating inquiry based research questions, write an open-ended research question that you are interested in pursuing for the rest of the term.
Greene's Criteria:
1. The question can be answered with the tools you have
2. The question conveys a clear idea of who you are answering the question for
3. The question is organized around an issue
4. The question explores "how," "why," or "whether," and the "extent to which."
5. There are no prepackaged answers for the question
6. The question grows out of some issue or fundamental tension
After you write your research question, you are required to deliver some feedback to at least three of your peers. Your job as a reviewer of your peer's questions is to aid in the development and progression of the person's research project. How can the question be phrased in a better way? Are there offshoot questions that might help the person consider another angle to the question? If the question doesn't meet some of Greene's characteristics, what can be done to help? Might there be an interesting research method you could suggest? When you reply to a peer, you must reply to a peer who has less than three responses. It is important that everyone get responses from at least three people.
What is most important to me is that you are pursuing some subject that interests you. If you are really interested in your research project, this class will be much more worth your while. What aspects of a person's life influence their decision to choose a college major and to what extent do they effect them?
ReplyDeleteI chose this questions because currently I very interested in majors, being a college student myself, and I am in the process of choosing one. I've changed my major twice already and I plan on changing it at least one more time; because of this I feel not only can the easily accessible population of college students on UCF's campus can help me with my research, but i can add my own insight and maybe discover something about it myself.
I am also very interested in this topic, as I have thought long and hard about my major. At first I thought I knew what I wanted to do with my life but then after thinking harder, I believed that my parents knew what they wanted me to do with my life. I see a lot of upside to this question but one of the negative concerns is who are you going to research this topic. My advice is to focus both on the views of the parents and the students in multiple interviews in order to attain the proper information. Overall, I believe this question follows Greene’s heuristics quite well, as there are no prepackaged answers, it can be answered with the tools you have, it is a well organized question, it explores why/to what extent, it is open to dispute, and finally has a clear audience.
DeleteCouple weeks back a friend sent me a link to a video, ''What if Money Was No Object'' by Allan Watts explaining the purpose of living a short and happy life doing what you love not considering the money. The connection between your phenomenal question and this video is the attempt both make to identify what it is that motivates us to choose a career field (major) and the way of life that we do. Your research question is more than interesting, its insightful and beneficial given the results you'll be analyzing into a paper.
DeleteLike Jake Rosenberg mentioned, your question definitely identifies with Greene's format. I have to disagree with Rosenberg on the comment to focus on the parents' views as well. Doing this switches the focus of the question, for example, influential aspects may include: parents, sibling, unfortunate circumstances, social and socio-economic status, cultural, stigmas, societal views, etc. His research isn't solely about parents' influence but every and anything else that may be a factor. Parents might represent a larger portion of that influence but the question states, ''aspects of a person's life'' and parents aren't the only aspect, society and a number of things do as well.
Likewise, I think we can all relate to and appreciate this topic in some way. There are so many things we think about when trying to plan out the rest of our lives, and the more we experience the world and understand it, the more we get caught up in shaping our future. With as fast as trends and technology change now, I'm interested to see if that has any kind of affect on how we envision ourselves in the future.
DeleteAs for me, I know that I chose my major, Aerospace Engineering, because of opportunity. I received a full ride scholarship from the Air Force as long as I chose to study in a technical major. While I had prior interests in Engineering, this opportunity sealed my fate with a contract.
This definitely affects my future in many ways. First and foremost, I will be serving as an officer in the US Air Force for a minimum of 6 years active and 4 years reserve for accepting this scholarship. Furthermore, I have the potential to add substantially more time to my service depending on the actual job I choose to pursue inside the Air Force. Once I sort that out, I will also have to choose where in the world I will be stationed. At most, I will live at the same post for a maximum of three years which easily affects any family I may have at the time.
It's funny to think about how far down the road a decision may affect you, but I'd like to see what kind of results this paper turns up. Hopefully the research and variables will come to you easily, good luck!
I, as well, find this topic to be very interesting for I am also trying to figure out the appropriate major for my degree. It is a back and forth battle between if I should study something that I am interested in versus something that can make me a lot of money and can easily get a job with. I believe that this topic can definitely help you figure out the path you want to take and which major that you want to go forward with.
DeleteI love this topic. I would be interested in what the outcome would be. There are so many factors that can influence a students decision for their career. Parents approval, money, where you would be located, all these things would and could affect a student's decision. It would be sad if in the end of this its stated that someone would leave a career that they love for reasons such as money, or parental approval.

ReplyDeleteThe topic of sports is one that I am very passionate about, so immediately I wanted to research something about the world of sports. Therefore I decided that I wanted to look in greater depth at the fans of sports and how their mental states change depending on the outcomes of games as well as the actions within a game. I know for my self that whenever “my” teams loses it makes my day a little worse and I become more irritable, this brings me to question if I am the only one who goes through this psychological change. In all, I feel like this topic could be one worth researching because I can explore my two favorite subjects, sports and psychology.
I see where you're trying to go with this! It's an interesting topic and looks like it has the potential to relate back to several other things in daily life. It sounds like it might be hard to study, but I don't think it has to be. However, I think rewording your question or narrowing your topic slightly would make your research much easier!
DeleteA couple ideas for carrying out the study could be something like how much time passes before a fan falls asleep after laying in bed after wins and losses or maybe number of days in a row a fan talks about a game after a win or a loss. Fan bases are so large and encompass such a diverse number of people that any kind of study would be difficult, but with the right variable, it could be possible to effectively reach these people.

I feel like this is a good idea for a topic but this specific question may be hard to find concrete results for. The I've seen the emotional effects of a sports game on someone and I feel like its either positive or negative, therefore carry on to the rest of their daily activities. You may want to broaden your topic to encompass more effects on a persons psyche due to a games outcome. Possibly compare different types of sports such as Basketball and Baseball. Another thing that concerns me is the potential for research. You will obviously have to observe people before and after a game. The fact that they are aware that you are observing them could influence their behavior.

If so, how detrimental or effective is the psyche towards physical performance and or fitness. How can we train ourselves into developing a positive state of mind to positively impact our outcomes?
Growing out of my own personal interest with bodybuilding and fitness and being given a huge help from professor Longhany, I was able to identify and formulate a research topic that relates to my current long term goals of achieving the physique of a ‘’fitness model’’. Doing something out of personal interest or having a bias towards something definitely increases our enthusiasm and willingness to ‘’put our best foot forward’’ and that’s how I feel about my research question; with professor Longhany’s help, I’ll be able to dive into a project of extreme interest, doing what I like whilst being able to have it be a part of my academics is thrilling. Not only that, but it’s also a motivation for me to continue with my goals which will eventually produce the bulk of my research data.
Simply put, my research will reveal to my fitness peers, fellow classmates and me how mental visioning, reflecting on one’s thoughts and feelings act as a means of performance enhancement.
I believe this is an extremely interesting subject. As an athlete myself, having competed in many 'visual' sports such as gymnastics and tumbling, I personally believe that thought and mental awareness have a profound affect on performance. I cannot imagine participating in some of the activities that I enjoy without having a systematic thought process. In fact, I think that there is a certain threshold level of activity at which it is necessary to develop a process to comprehend it.
DeleteI think it would be interesting to possibly interview a handful of athletes that are training in the same manner as you, but on varying levels of involvements (i.e. beginners to competitive athletes), to see how their thought processes vary with skill level.

The main reason why I think this is a fantastic idea is simply because you enjoy it. To me, this is the first thing someone should look for while researching a topic. Also, the fact that you have multiple questions encompass a wide range of potential research possibilities and evidence. I'm sure you have already thought of this but if you haven't the RWC would be the perfect place for you to go to research and gather evidence. You can also find our sports team practicing on campus all the time. It would probably be beneficial to look into using our teams for research.

After reading this question, I was reminded of a question that I always ponder about, whether or not athletes play better when they “look” and “feel” more aggressive. I love psychology, so anything question about mental states is usually very fascinating to me. On another note, Francoise’s question does in fact follow Greene’s characteristics. The most important characteristic in my mind is that there are no prepackaged answers, and after reading this question I cannot seem to find one. Although in my opinion I believe that mental state does affect the athlete’s output. The main conflict with researching this question is the matter of gathering information in a timely matter because I believe researching this topic would take more than just a couple weeks. The only thing I can think of to speed up the research is to depend mostly on quantitative research, which is not always the most descriptive. Overall, I really believe this is a question that can help many people if done correctly. I personally believe that this question has a lot of merit.
DeleteWhat factors have the largest effect on a Scuba Diver's Surface Air Consumption Rate (SAC Rate)?
ReplyDeleteAs an avid diver, this topic is extremely important to me. I am now at the level of diving in which the only limiting factor on my dives is the amount of air I can physically take down with me. However, there is a limit to how much air one can realistically take with them. So the solution to this is to improve my SAC Rate or, in other words, breathe less.
There are many factors that can affect a diver's SAC Rate. Some of the major variables include fitness level, ones level of experience, smoking habits, age, weight and gender. With this in mind, I plan to compare all of these factors through a survey-style study on the world's largest online Scuba Forum. My hope for this study is to find what factors have the largest affect on diver's SAC Rate, and by how much, so that divers know what they can do to improve it.
While some of these factors will require many samples to develop a correlation, the two factors that I will study regardless of participants will be diver experience and fitness level, which I believe to be the largest deciding factors in one's SAC Rate. While these factors appear difficult to test, but all can be quantified and is information that is readily available since divers log their activities.
Overall, I am excited to start this project. I work at a dive shop in Winter Park and have over 13 Dive Certifications including Divemaster, 5 rescue certifications and a Cave Diver rating. Hopefully I can get the amount of participants I'm hoping for!
After talking to John in class I was able to better understand the sport of Scuba diving and the many factors that can be involved in SAC rates. I think this is a very fascinating topic that does follow Greene’s guidelines mainly because John, a certified diver, is researching this topic. Therefore he can use the tools he has to research this topic. Another characteristic in which is one of the most important in my mind is the heuristic of prepackaged answers. John’s question definitely does not have any prepackaged answers because of the many variables he is combining together in his question. But as I expressed in class, the only problem with this question is that there are way to many variables that need to be researched. I think if there were a more specific question about only a few variables this question would be a lot more manageable. For example, body weight, dive experience, and maybe one or two more things. Overall, this question could be a lot of fun to research especially for a divemaster because he can better himself as well as other divers with his findings.
DeleteI agree with Blake who posted below. Even though I don’t know anything about scuba diving, I’m sure someone has studied this before and you could find a pretty clear answer to your question. You want to lean more towards a “how”, “why”, “whether”, or “the extent to which” type of question. Instead of trying to figure out which factors have the largest effect on a scuba diver’s SAC rate, you could pick a couple of factors like divers experience and fitness level which you seem to be really interested in and explore the extent to which they affect the SAC rate. Also, you could explore how fitness level and experience affect the SAC rate.
DeleteThis is a personal interest topic, and I think you really could get into it beyond the academic level. It sounds like your an experienced and well versed diver, and even work in a dive store. With that being said I think exploring a local convention (if there are any upcoming events), but also seeking out popular dive locations in our area, and conversing with experienced individuals would give you a good start. You can gather a lot of information on physical qualities (i.e. weight, height, lung capacity), but you could also get into a deeper discussion and analyze psychological factors such as stress and anxiety. I think you have some interesting research ahead of you, best of luck.
DeleteYou certainly have a interest in a topic such as this one but i don't think this may be the exact approach that you want to take. I feel like there is a pre-packaged answer for this question and the only thing that may differ is if you asks different people. This is really restrict your research possibilities. Scuba diving does seem like an interesting topic though, you obviously know more than i do about it so I could be incorrect in my assumptions. Pretending that I know anything about scuba diving at all, I would look into other potential research topics regarding scuba diving, ones that don't contain a pre-packaged answer.

ReplyDeleteI have always been a fan of horror/thriller films one of my favorites is Saw but then another one of my favorites is Psycho. Both are from very two different eras. Saw is a very gruesome, bloody movie and on the other hand Psycho you get one killing scene and it is in black and white.
Women are also a main target for the victims in most horror/thriller films. Why is this? Is it because they are considered weak?
I do not have a set in stone question of what I want to ask, these are the things that I am interested in and would like to research. If anyone has feed back on better question to ask please feel free to say so!
For your first question, you need to define what you mean by "worse". I'm assuming you mean that films have progressed to being more gruesome and the reason behind that would be an interesting topic for research but I don't know if it has a lot of substance. There are many studies on desensitization from media. If you could find a specific aspect in that direction that you want to take that hasn't been explored enough, that might be a good direction for your research. You could look at how desensitization relates to media and how it differs from culture to culture. For example, does the movie Saw have the same effect on American viewers as it does on another culture or people from another side of the world. You could look at the globalization of violent media and how America compares to other countries.
DeleteI would have to agree with Brittany. Your research is going to be on opinion and other people's opinion and good research needs facts supporting a claim. I also feel that some of your questions may have prepackaged answers as well. Women are more likely to be victimized because they are the more vulnerable sex, typically, when it comes to physical strength. The reasoning behind why films have gotten more gruesome and lack a strong story line could be an interesting topic to explore.
DeleteI can see why this will be a 'shocking' study given that you'll be required to view horror/thriller pieces in order to identify the extent to which these films have increased in realism and gore to produce the answer to your question; if in fact ‘’worse’’ is defined as such. As far as the phrasing of your question goes, it’s a bit unclear, "Why" seems to be a very subjective statement which limits actual data inclusion for your study besides opinion. This doesn't mean your question lacks merit, it is your proposed approach towards the topic that’s the issue. Finding a different framing for the question might be the solution as well as a different aspect of looking at gender roles in these films; what’s the importance of having a varying gender selection as preys in horror/thriller movie, the type of effect it produces on the viewers’ knowing both sexes are preys, does it increase the appeal of the movie knowing that the preys will eventually be captured, killed, etc.

ReplyDeleteI chose this question because I have always questioned the evolution of America’s patriotism/nationalism. To analyze that topic I chose to study the American flag. America praises many figures such as the Bald Eagle along with the flag.
Do past generations uphold the flag to a higher extent than present generations?
What events have shifted the importance Americans have attached to our national flag?
These are a few questions that I would like to try to answer in my research
I think this topic has a lot of substance, but I'm not sure if just looking at the American flag is broad enough. I think it would be interesting if you look at how different types of people exhibit nationalism and what patriotic symbols like the American flag or bald Eagles mean to them. You could look at what the symbols or even patriotism in general means to different cultures that live in America. You could study families in America from different cultures that exhibit patriotism to their home country, or their country of origin, and how that differs American patriotism. Your question about how different generations view the flag is also very good one. Interviewing would obviously be a good way to research this, but I think it would be really cool if somehow you could look farther back past the people living today and see how the view of the flag has changed since America was founded as a country.

Maybe instead of talking about the American flag, you could focus more of your research on the changes in patriotism/nationalism and why these changes have occurred. I am pretty sure that is what you meant by saying that the American flag is a symbol for America but I just wouldn't word the question quite that way because the actual physical changes to the American flag are obvious and their reasons are somewhat predetermined.

I think it would be a very interesting topic to study, seeing as a nation we have taken the Pledge of Allegiance out of schools. Maybe you could look into why our nation once "under God" has now changed, we are no longer allowed to say that in schools, yet it still shows up on our currency. I think this is a very good study!

It's almost as if the only time we have patriotism or nationalism is when something bad happens to the United States of America. That makes me extremely sad and it is such a shame. ReplyDeleteBeing an advocate of site acceptance and body positivity, I find the subject very interesting. I think the research will showcase issues with American media and ignorance. I plan to use a lot of advertisements and other things of that sort from different eras in America as source evidence. I may even do some interviewing to collect evidence about today’s body image culture and allow others to add their opinions about why they think the ideals have changed. I think this question is narrow enough without being too limited. However, I’m very interested to hear what others think I could do this question or another possible direction I could take my research.
I think this is a great topic to discuss especially since media puts a lot of pressure on society about body image. Women and men deal with body image issues because the media has a standard body image and this is what we as a society 'believe' we should look like. I think your idea of using advertisements is great, since we are subjected to these in every day life, every where we look. I also think interviewing people about their views on body image and what they 'believe' is to be the ideal body image.

I think your topic is something that is really important! I think you would have many different options to do for your research. I think it would be a great idea to possibly interview people with a slide show or small posters with pictures of people with all different sizes and ask them what they think about the people displayed on the images. Growing up with three sisters and knowing how body image ideals can affect them, especially through teen years, I look forward to seeing what you choose to do with your research.

ReplyDeleteThe topic that I am going to be research is “ The implications of how social media has changed the socialization patterns of college student”
I do not necessarily have all the nooks and crannies figured out but I do know that I am very interested in how and why social media is such a big part of so many students’ lives. Is it because we feel more connected to the world or it is it just something that has to do with our own self-image and how we wish people to see us? I plan to address these questions and a few more in my research and I am looking forward to getting started.
I think this is a very interesting topic. I think a good example you could use are all of the different groups you can find on Facebook now. For example on my facebook I am part of a ucf class of 2016 group where I hear of parties and events I would not have heard about other wise. Also another point I think would be interesting to look at is how people have a much wider pool of people they can communicate with. For example on the UCF page you can ask a question to about 4,000 freshmen as supposed to the hand-full you might know personally.
DeleteThere is definitely a lot of research you could do with this topic. You could interview both young adults/teenagers as well as adults and the elderly in order to see their side of it and why they think social media has grown so much over the years. One thing is to make sure you have a research question rather than a statement. It could be "What are the implications of the use of social media in relation to the socialization patterns of college students?"
DeleteWith my interest in overall health, specifically nutrition and health, I decided it would be best to research, "What psychological factors contribute to the choice to live a healthy lifestyle?"
ReplyDeleteGenerally I think I would start this research out by observation at my local gym, and food places one could coin as healthy. I personally am heavily involved in an active lifestyle and I choice to seek this out for a multitude of reasons, some including physical aesthetics as well cognitive brain power and proper functioning. I think the idealistic world we live in contributes to a large part of the reasoning behind a healthy lifestyle, but there is a variety of other rational that can be associated with living that way, especially related to mental performance and confidence. I plan to get to the root of these different factors, and see which specific ones separate themselves from the rest.
This is a great topic. many people today only want to "get fit" for physical purposes only. You could study the history of recreational exercise, and interview people of today and ask what factors motivate them to exercise.

Another direction you could go with this is seeing how the psychological factors change with different age groups. Younger people will sometimes have different motives to be healthy than the middle-aged or the elderly.

Why was the film industry started? Who was the target audience when films first began? Are films being made, today, for the same reasons as they were back then? Who is the target audience in today’s society? What has led to the popularity of independent films in recent years?
I have a genuinely huge love for the film industry and I know I want to do my research within this topic, but I’m not sure if the questions that I’m asking need to be more specific, revised, or completely changed. I would really appreciate hearing what other people think about this topic and what they think I should change.
I can see that you are really enthusiastic about the film industry and I agree that if you're passionate about it, you'll make your topic work.
DeleteI believe that there are a lot of questions being put forth and that you should narrow it down. Something that helps me is to place my topic into subcategories. Think of "film" as being the general topic, and some of your subcategories would be:
-the history of film
-target audiences
-or popularity of independent films
You don't have to encompass all aspects of film at once because that is a ton of imformation to cover. And as you begin research, you'll find that many of the sub categ. are linked and it's not a bad thing to mention them together. You can even narrow it down even futher and pick two examples of movies that stand out to you personally, or that have been received well pubically,to relate to your questions.
I find that it also helps to make a rough outline so that you can see your brainstorming down on paper. I don't know if that helped at all, but good luck in whatever path you decide to take.
I am a huge film fan also so I would love to see the outcome of this research ! I think that maybe its one too many questions for this specific research project. It might be too much information crammed into one paper, and the questions are a bit too far from each other to make them all coincide into one paper. I would choose some of the five questions and narrow it down a bit.
DeleteThis is great ! We talked a little about this in class and I'm happy you have come up with some specific questions. I still think you should research more into the motivations of film making. Has the motivation and passion changed over time ? And how has the effect of film on society changed. We talked about how movies were used as a news source during wars. Maybe you can interview/research film makers of this generation and older generations to see the difference in motivation and to see what audience was most important for them to reach out to.

I was looking up this topic online and I came across this statement "A language is a window on the world; and the more windows you have, the better you are able to grasp the world." I thought it was a very interesting statement and one that I personally think is true. An idea that I had for my topic was "Does being bilingual give you and advantage in life?" I would also like to see what advantages people feel being bilingual will provide.
Like I said this is still in the beginning stages and I am very open and really want to hear others opinions on this topic and maybe someone has a better idea when it come to a topic dealing with bilinguals!

Without going into to much detail, I'm interested in the rites of passage that accompany heroes both ancient and modern. I want to try and focus on how the characteristics of heroes has changed or remained the same throughout history and zero in on one or two specific genre's of heroes. It's a work in progress, but I think it would be interesting, at least for me, to analyze, compare and contrast these ideas.
I like the idea of studying how characteristics of heroes have changed.
DeleteThe topic of the rites of passage for heroes would not have a lot of substance as a single topic. Maybe you could include the topic of rites of passage inside of the broader topic of heroes.
My topic deals with music and psychology. I want to research and write about how music affects your mood. In my psychology class they talked about how music may be a factor in deciphering out mood and outlooks on a certain situation. I would love to research this and see if it is actually true. I would play music in the background while showing a picture that is meant to spark emotion. After experimenting on someone with no music in the background I would compare the results to those who had the music in the background. I would also test several different types of music with the same picture to see how the reactions vary.

I think your topic is interesting. I'd like to see what types of music you'll incorporate with certain photos. It won't be a typical research project, and I'd be excited to see how it turns out.

DeleteI think this topic is really interesting. I know that music affects my mood. Or maybe it's the other way around. For instance, when someone goes through a break up, all they do is listen to sad music. I know that when you I'm on on the way to the club, I like listening to loud music that gets me amped up. I will be interested to see what results you find.
DeleteMy topic that I want to write about deals with music and society's view on what sells and what's actually raw talent. The radio has conformed to the demands of society instead of playing good music that may not necessarily have "the look" that sells. I want to research how my peers value image over musicianship. Can an artist's "look" affect their audience? Why does the radio only limit themselves to the most popular 5 songs (that aren't necessarily good)? Does it correlate to the image of the artist?
ReplyDeleteYou definitely proposed good questions. I think it would be interesting if you focused on the radio and the reasoning behind the songs they choose to air. Also, possibly researching different artists and their beginnings. Did their sound change over the years? How did they change? Did them changing make them more popular with the mainstream audience? Was their change a boost in their careers? You can also interview students. Maybe ask them questions on popular artists or bands. Ask the students if they are familiar with an artist or band’s current work or earlier work. You can probably find out if students stuck with a certain artist from their early work to their more current work. It seems you can do many different things with this topic. I look forward to seeing what you choose to do with it!
DeleteI have asked this question a bunch myself, very interesting! It seems that most mainstream music today is pretty much all the same general lyrical content and even sounding. Many of the artists when looking at the hip-hop industry for example represent the same image, with regards to flashy jewelry and expensive materialistic objects. I think you could analyze different "top" artists in a specific genre, and survey some people to figure out what it is exactly that makes the artist appealing, whether its there start like persona or their actual work. This is a great topic, I very much see a decline in radio popularity, in part due to pandora and other internet related music streaming programs, so that might also be something to take into account.
DeleteI like this topic a lot because I have no idea why radio stations limit themselves. There are so many people with raw talent and so many artist that do not get any attention from any radio stations or television. I think it would be cool to research "The Voice" and compare the winners to that show to American Idol winners. That may come to be pretty interesting.

I have always been interested in the difference between gender. i want to analyze how these difference effect certain aspects of our lives. For the purpose of this class i have narrowed my research to communication. My research inquiry is as followed:
"How does gender identification influence communication dynamics between romantic and non-romantic relationships?"
I learned about a lot of this in sociology last semester! You can research how people in a community shape peoples lives and how there are traditions that are now changing. For example it is becoming more common for women to not take the name of their husbands. Women also are becoming the "head of the household" and you can research how the past traditional relationships between men and women are becoming more dynamic and different from the original norm.
DeleteHow does birth order, specifically the differing parenting styles for each child, affect each child's personality? Also, how has each generation of parents changed relating to their parenting styles because they are making adjustments from how they were raised?
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am an Undeclared major, one of the majors I have been looking into is Psychology. I took AP Psych in high school and have been fascinated with the workings of the brain and people's personalities ever since, so when given this assignment I knew I wanted to do something relating with psychology. Also, there are three children in my family and I have come to notice similar personality traits between my siblings and I, and other families with three children. I would like to explore if there is actually a connection between these perceptions. I'm not sure how I would gather data from this other than interviewing parents, and maybe the children too, or even if this is too broad of a topic. I'm open to suggestions!
I think this is a very interesting topic! Like you, I come from a family of three children so we had an oldest child, middle child, and youngest child and I now can see what I think have been the effects of birth order. I would love to see if what I think are the "effects" of being the oldest child for example are really effects or are just a weird coincidence.
DeleteThis is a fun topic that can be looked at from many different angles. I think an interesting approach would be to research how parents learn from the mistakes their first child comes across and whether that makes them more strict or more lenient.

ReplyDeleteWhat will the earth be like in years to come after being affected by all the pollution and damage being done?
ReplyDeleteMany years ago the economy was based around agriculture and now due to technology, the earth is being destroyed because work is done in buildings. Pollution and the burning of fossil fuels are also destroying the earth. There are many negative impacts on earth and not many people do much about it. So my research will show how the climate has changed over the years and show how that has affected life on earth.
This topic seems very interesting. I think there are many different options you have for researching this type of topic. You can probably make a survey about pollution and recycling habits and give it out to different groups of people to fill out. I think, if you end up giving surveys or interviews to people, you should make sure to, not only survey or interview students on campus, but also out of campus to really get diverse groups of people. Also, maybe ask people how concerned they are about protecting our environment. I’m sure people have many different opinions on this topic. I’m definitely concerned with taking care of our planet and I would like to see how you end up taking on this research.
DeleteYour topic is probably one of the most important ones out there right now. We think of big issues in the world and poverty, hunger, and peace are usually focused on the most. With that being said it is our responsibility to our planet to keep it as clean as we can. I think climate change has really took a turn for the worse in the last couple of decades. There is a lot of government statistics regarding our climate, so that would be a great first place to start, looking for a trend and then correlating that trend with what is going on in that time. You could also look into environmental projects regarding the use of alternative energy as well as environmental cleanup.

ReplyDeleteI chose this question because I feel like it is something I can help answer in my own way because I am biracial. But I know it may be difficult to come up with one answer. This is because everyone is different. I could ask any other biracial people the same question and they could reply with a completely different answer. I also want to interview the parents of these people to see what struggles they faced in bringing up a child of two different races. I'm interested to see what information interviews and articles can give me.
I wouldn’t stress about finding an answer, your question is layered with multiple viewpoints and angles to take that will certainly produce differing perspectives for you to analyze. Your answer to the question may be as valid and rational as the person you interview. What you could do to come to some concluding summary- not specifically one answer- is to draw a parallel between your response to the question and everyone else’s. Because all the responses are going to be different, it would benefit you to understand and note why such differences exist. For example, a biracial individual might be raised in a single parent home and so identification is more associated with that parent’s culture and ‘’ethnicity’’. If you were to ask that individual which race he or she identifies with it would be the parent’s due to that singular exposure. I can say your research won’t be boring, it really does provide you with the opportunity of seeing how well you relate or differ with others in your struggles, thoughts and emotions about being biracial and having to identify yourself often times as one or the other, or having difficulty identifying yourself at all due to the lack of a definite answer to ‘’What am I?’’.
DeleteThis is a very interesting topic and I'm curious to see what you find out. The only thing I find that could be a possible problem is that your question might be a little too broad to answer in one semester. You might want to focus on one specific type, such as if you're biracial with spanish and something else, or maybe African American. I think asking parents would be a great idea though and would really give you a lot of insight, talking to them about not only the struggles they faced, but also the benefits and how they did or did not incorporate both of the cultures into their childrens lives.
